Hello everyone. Today we will answer the question “How can I install WordPress on my Local Computer?” with the Studio program introduced by WordPress.com. Believe me, this is one of the easiest WordPress installations I have ever seen.
You just select the site title and folder without any configuration. Studio takes care of the rest for you and you can access your local WordPress from the designated port.
In this article, we will explain all the steps visually. However, since we are currently using Windows, you will see the steps on Windows. This may vary slightly for Mac computers. So let’s move on to the tutorial. But first, what is WordPress.com Studio? Let’s take a look at that.
What is WordPress.com Studio?
Studio is a desktop program that WordPress.com introduced on April 24th. By installing this desktop program on your Mac or Windows computer, it allows you to run WordPress on your local computer in a few steps.
WordPress.com Studio Installation Steps
Download the desktop app
First of all, go to the download site by clicking on the link below and select the one suitable for your computer as you see in the picture. For Macs and Apple computers, there are two versions, Intel and Apple chips. Please make sure you download the correct one.
Run the downloaded app
Then double click on the downloaded file and open it. Windows didn’t ask for any installation steps and it installed directly. As you can see in the picture below, when you double click on the application, a simple installation process is performed. Then it goes directly to the screen, which we will explain in the next step.
Enter the directory and site title
Just as the installation step of the app is just a double-click, the installation step of Local WordPress is also a single-click. All you need to do is enter the site name, select the folder where the installation will take place, and click the “Add site” button. Then the WordPress installation process begins.
Accept if this warning appears
After pressing the “Add site” button in the Local WordPress installation process, you are likely to see a warning in the following style. This warning confirms the application’s access to your local network. This allows it to run WordPress on your computer as localhost:{port}.
Your Local WordPress is ready
After accepting the warning in the previous step, you just need to wait a little bit longer and the WordPress installation is complete. Yes, your WordPress is ready to use without the need for any PHP, MySQL, Apache, LAMP, WAMP, etc. installation.
You can see what I have put in red boxes. There is basic information about your WordPress installation and links to open your WordPress in the browser. It also shows whether WordPress is active or not.
Look WordPress Configurations
You can use the Settings tab menu to access other information about the Local WordPress installation.
Create more sites if you want
If you want to create more sites, all you need to do is click on the “Add site” button in the bottom left corner.
Open Local WordPress in Browser
That’s it, as you can see, we can access our Local WordPress on port 8881. If we were not using Studio, we would have to use bundle applications like LAMP, WAMP, and XAMP. Or we would have to install PHP, MySQL, and Apache one by one. But thanks to Studio, we can install an unlimited number of WordPress installations with a single click.
